Attendance and Leave Policy

Attendance and Leave Policy

Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for the academic success and overall development of students. Sowma Public School maintains a clear attendance policy to instill discipline, responsibility, and time management among learners. To ensure uniformity and accountability, the following rules regarding attendance and leave must be strictly followed:

Punctuality is Mandatory

Students must arrive at school by 9:15 a.m. sharp. Late arrivals disrupt the learning process and will not be permitted without a valid reason. Habitual latecomers may face disciplinary action.

Minimum Attendance Requirement

A student must maintain at least 80% attendance in each academic term to be eligible for the end-of-term assessments and promotions. Exceptions may be made only in case of genuine medical emergencies, and at the discretion of the Principal.

Post-Vacation Attendance

Attendance is mandatory on the first working day after vacations (Diwali, Pongal, Summer Holidays, etc.). Unexcused absence on these days will be viewed seriously.

Mandatory Attendance for Exams

Attendance is compulsory during all tests, unit assessments, and final examinations. No re-test will be conducted for absentees, and students missing exams without valid reasons will be marked absent.

Zero Period Attendance

Students must be present in their classroom by 9:25 a.m., so attendance can be recorded during the Zero Period. Late arrival beyond this time will result in being marked absent for the day, and an SMS alert will be sent to parents.

No Half-Day Leave

There is no provision for half-day leave. Students feeling unwell should not attend school that day. If a child falls sick during school hours, parents will be contacted to pick up the child after obtaining proper authorization.

Leave of Absence (Medical or Otherwise)

If a student is absent for more than two consecutive days, a written leave application along with a medical certificate and doctor’s prescription (in case of illness) must be submitted.

Planned leaves must be informed in advance and approved by the Class Teacher or Principal.

Uninformed absence for more than six consecutive days without valid reason may result in the student’s name being struck off the rolls.

We seek the support and cooperation of all parents to ensure that their wards maintain regular and punctual attendance, which is a cornerstone of academic excellence and holistic growth.
